Dr. Kim received her undergraduate degree from Yale College with honors and graduated from Yale University School of Medicine. She completed her general surgery residency and cardiothoracic surgery fellowship in the US Army at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She has had additional advanced cardiac surgery training at Harvard Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland Ohio in innovative techniques. She has been in practice for over 20years to include assistant professorship at Vanderbilt Medical Center performing the full scope of adult cardiac surgery. She is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Kim is a bilingual Korean-American who was a competition level classical concert pianist prior to her medical training. She served in the US Army achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was deployed as a cardiothoracic surgeon with the 21st Combat Support Hospital in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Dr. Kim has won numerous patient nominated awards during her career to include the CARES award and Extraordinary Hero award. She was named a 5 star Healthgrades Doctor in Cardiac Surgery two years in a row at Vanderbilt and TopDoc in Colorado Springs 5 years in a row.
She was instrumental in starting 2 local chapters of Mended Hearts in the East Coast and received the American Heart Association Colorado Springs Woman of Impact Award. She is a Board Member of the El Paso County Medical Society.
She is a patron of the local arts and the Humane Society of Pikes Peak. She enjoys international travel and golf but mostly spending time with her physician husband and their dog hiking in the Colorado mountains.
