Dr. Whited, a native of North Carolina, graduated Summa Cum Laude from East Carolina University with a double major in Biology and Chemistry. He completed medical school at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He matched into general surgery residency at the University of Louisville and spent an additional year at the Cardiovascular Innovation Institute performing both clinical outcomes research and new device innovation. During this time, he was selected as the American Association for Thoracic Surgery Member of the Day and the Society of Thoracic Surgery Looking to the Future Scholarship Recipient. He has published over a dozen peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, which he has presented at national meetings.
Dr. Whited completed his cardiothoracic surgical fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern. His extensive training included: heart failure, transplant, coronary artery revascularization, complex mitral and aortic valve disease, transcatheter approaches to valvular heart disease, aortic surgery and electrophysiology.
In his free time, Dr. Whited enjoys fly fishing, mountain biking, skiing and spending time with his wife and two children.
